Lamarite Slate Composite Shingles from TAMKO Building Products
Lamarite Slate Composite Shingles
The Lamarite Slate Composite Shingle, from Tamko Building Products, was designed to provide a practical alternative to the traditional slate shingle roof. Each shingle is made out of a colorized, mineral filled polymer which serves to form a material strong enough to resist cracking from both inclement weather and foot traffic.
As opposed to a traditional slate shingle, the Lamarite Slate Composite Shingle is lighter in weight and offers a quick and easy method of application. The application friendly design includes:
- spacer tabs,
- a centerline mark,
- exposure marks, and
- designated nailing areas.
The Lamarite Slate Composite Shingle is offered in a number of ‘cool color’ options. These colors include pale olive, natural sand, terra cotta, and almond shell. The color options allow the shingle to meet relevant standards under the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC).
As stated by the CRRC, a roof’s coolness is determined by its solar reflectance and thermal emittance characteristics. Solar reflectance refers to a roof’s ability to reflect some fraction of the sun’s solar energy while thermal emittance refers to the roof’s ability to radiate the absorbed heat.
Roof shingles, similar to the Lamarite Slate Composite Shingle, referred to as ‘cool’, perform up to a particular standard in these two areas. Such shingles improve the overall comfort level of the home while lowering energy consumption and utility costs.
The Lamarite Slate Composite Shingle is UL Class A fire resistant and UL Class 4 impact resistant. The shingles are available in 5, 7, and 12 inch sizes and are backed by a 50-year limited warranty.
